The question for a while has been what will the New York Giants do after Eli Manning? Manning now at age 38 has slowly been on the decline for a while now, and the Giants need to start thinking about life after Manning. One scenario that has popped up would be for the Giants to get on the phone and call the Arizona Cardinals about Josh Rosen. With rumors swirling about new Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury being in love with the potential number one pick and former Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, now is the time for the Giants GM Dave Gettleman to make that call.
The Giants have multiple draft picks in the 2019 NFL draft. Gettleman should try and trade the second (No. 38 overall) to the Cardinals for Rosen. Giants would still keep the number six overall pick in the first round and get their new franchise quarterback in Rosen without really giving up to much. A line up of Rosen, Saquan Barkley, OBJ, and Evan Engram would be a good way to get out in front of the situation of losing Manning and going through a long drought of trying to find the next franchise quarterback.
This move makes too much sense for both parties, and of course, a lot has to to do with the Cardinals loving Murray has much as what has been reported to make this deal. Giants cap space is currently at $23,910,035 (cap figure is before yesterdays trade), and with Rosen’s contract sitting at $14,398,167 per overthecap.com for the 2019 season the Giants and GM Gettleman could squeeze Rosen’s deal in.
Giants also made a trade yesterday involving pass rusher Olivier Vernon adding guard Kevin Zeitler to the offensive line helps the Giants protect a potential Manning replacement. Zeitler was also graded as PFF’s top pass-blocking guard last season. The Giants and Gettleman should try and get this Rosen deal done as soon as possible. The toughest position to fill in the NFL is having a solid quarterback and with every other skill position addressed for the Giants and all under the age of 26, the time to move on from Manning and bring in a new gunslinger is now.
