When the New Orleans Saints traded with the Green Bay Packers to move up in last year’s draft and select defensive end Marcus Davenport, it cost them their 2019 first-round selection. As it stands right now, the Saints’ first pick this year will be in the second round at pick number 62.

If they stay put in the second round, this will be the latest, first pick for the Saints since 2012 when they selected defensive end Akiem Hicks in the third round. Despite this late selection, Saints’ General Manager Mickey Loomis is not worried about the talent they could find at pick 62.

“I think our view is it’s a fairly deep draft and we’re pretty confident that we’re going to get a good player at 62,” said Loomis.

Defensive line and wide receiver are arguably the positions which have the deepest depth across the board, and just so happen to be two positions that the Saints could look to add players through the draft.

The team added defensive linemen Mario Edwards Jr. and Malcolm Brown via free agency, yet they could still be on the lookout for talented rookies to add to the roster. The Saints are also likely looking for another wide receiver to pair with their young superstar Michael Thomas.

Of course, a trade to move up in the draft is always in the cards for the Saints. They’ve shown over previous years that they aren’t afraid to make a move for a player that they really like. It should truly be an interesting draft for the Who Dat Nation.
