After an illustrious 15-year career, the 38-year old has decided that this will be his final season in the NFL.
After being drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft, Watson staid with the team through the 2009 season. The next stop on his journey was Cleveland where he spent three seasons with the Browns before signing with the New Orleans Saints in 2013. He would play for the who dat nation for three seasons. During those three seasons, Watson enjoyed a career year in 2015 where he hauled in 74 catches for 825 yards and six touchdowns which were all career highs for the star tight end. After his tenure in New Orleans, Watson signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2016. Unfortunately, he suffered a torn Achilles, which ended his 2016 season. However, he did play for the Ravens in 2017 amassing over 500 yards and four touchdowns. During the offseason before the 2018 season began, Watson signed a one year deal to return to the Saints.
So far this season, Watson has caught 33 passes for 371 yards as well as two touchdowns, with one of those touchdowns being quarterback Drew Brees’ 500th career touchdown pass. Watson’s career totals with the New Orleans Saints include 146 catches for 1,558 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Watson was also named a finalist for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award twice in his 15-year career, one of those times being with the New Orleans Saints in 2015. Watson earned a Super Bowl ring with the New England Patriots after winning Super Bowl 39. Hopefully, Watson’s career ends with another Super Bowl ring as the Saints are aiming for the ultimate goal of winning Super Bowl 53.
